“Peter, thank you for the excellent, personalized, customer service today. I needed a source of running water outside and you came on a Sunday afternoon to open the system for spring. Thank you, again.”
C.T. Everett, MA
“After interviewing over three irrigation companies and receiving their estimates, we chose P.J. Pappas to install our new irrigation system with the new weather station monitor. The equipment was high quality and the estimate was reasonable. Peter walked us through the process very carefully and fully answered all our questions. The crew installed a fairly large system in less than a half day. They kindly explained everything as they went including how to use the weather station and they left the grounds and diggings quite clean. Needless to say, we are very happy with our system and with Peter Pappas as our expert irrigation specialist.”

Size of your Property
One of the most important factors in the cost of your irrigation system is the size of your lawn. The larger your property is the more irrigation pipe will need to be laid and you will need to install more sprinkler heads and zones. This will increase the price of your irrigation system. However, the price does not go up proportionally. That is to say the cost of a sprinkler system for a property that is twice the size of another is not necessarily twice the price. This is because irrigation systems run in "zones". A zone is an area with pipe and approximately 5-10 sprinkler heads. Once your system is installed and plumbed, adding zones is less expensive than installing a whole system.
Quality of the Irrigation System Parts
The second most important factor in the cost of your system is the quality of the pipe, sprinkler heads and timer system that you use. Sprinkler heads in particular get the most active use and so should be chosen well. What you try to save now in the cost of parts may end up hurting you in the long run in repair and replacement costs.
Irrigation systems help you save water and having the ability to set the time and duration of each watering, will save you money on your water bills. This helps justify the cost of installing an irrigation system!
Remember that to install a sprinkler system you will need to dig trenches for the pipes. Of course the ideal time to do this would be before you have planted a lawn and garden, but if you are installing your system in an already established lawn there will be some tearing up and rebuilding of the grounds that needs to occur. Make sure to plan the repair and reseeding of your lawn as part of the cost of installation.
Experience does count – make sure you are comfortable with the experience level of the contractor. If you are not sure, the best reference is a recent customer.
It's not all about price – often times, we use price as the only deciding factor. Contractors who have a significantly lower price than their competition have to cut corners in order reduce their costs. This could mean leaving out a backflow preventer, not using the proper installation techniques or even, not completing the work on time and on budget. Make sure you have selected a contractor based on their service, design plan and ability to install the system properly.
